Honors Received at Seton Hill University
Margaret Garrity Vocal Music Award
This award was named after Margaret Garrity, a 1922 alumnus of the music program of Seton Hill College. She went on to be a private voice instructor at SHC until she retired in 1972. She was a well-known soloist with local orchestra groups. She was very influential around the world, but especially in the Greensburg/Pittsburgh areas. This award is typically given to a voice major that demonstrates vocal excellence and growth. I was absolutely honored when I was told that I would be receiving this award, along with a $500 scholarship. I even had a chance to meet with the donor of the award and discuss my education and my career goals with her. This honor was presented to me during the Seton Hill University Celebration of Scholarship ceremony on April 24, 2024.
Dean's List
In order to be included on the Dean's List, you must achieve a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the semester. I was on the Dean's List for the following semesters: Fall 2020 (3.92), Spring 2021 (3.84), Fall 2022 (3.72), Fall 2023 (4.00), Spring 2024 (4.00), and Fall 2024 (4.00).
Career Readiness Summit
The Seton Hill University Career Readiness Summit is meant to prepare students for their future careers. If you decide to participate, you will be given a booklet to fill out with the eight career competencies: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Professionalism, Equity & Inclusion, Teamwork, Leadership, Technology, and Critical Thinking. Under each of these competencies, you must discuss two assignments, events, or workshops that you completed that met the competency and why they do. After you complete the booklet and turn it in to the Career and Professional Development Center, you will then be scheduled to give a presentation based on your answers in the booklet. After satisfactorily completing the presentation, the student is awarded with a notation on their transcript, a framed certificate, an special cord to wear during graduation, a digital badge, and a laptop sticker. I presented my competencies on November 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
